The committees listed below offer great opportunities to learn more about MPIKC, network with other members, and work toward committee goals. FINANCE

Audit Volunteer Leadership Position

  • Purpose:  Maintaining the quality and integrity of the Chapter’s financials
  • Responsibilities and Duties: The committee will assist the Board of Directors in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities relating to the quality and integrity of the Chapter’s financial reporting processes. The committee will review the financial accounts of the Chapter and report to the Board of Directors no less than once a year and/or as directed by the VP of Finance. The committee shall be made up of those who do not have any financial authority within the Chapter.
  • Qualification: Numbers oriented, understanding of budgets and willingness to question financials
  • Time Commitment: 1-2 Hours per Quarter, with one in-person meeting yearly
  • Training:  VP Orientation, Quarterly calls with VP of Finance
  • Reports To: VP of Finance

Strategic Alliance Event Managers

  • Purpose:  To integrate prospective sponsors within MPIKC Chapter
  • Responsibilities and Duties: Seeks out members and non-members (locally and nationally) that wish to showcase their facilities and services to MPIKC members. Matches prospective sponsors with pertinent MPIKC events. Works in conjunction with all committees and Chapter Administrator by handling the tracking of all donations and ROI for sponsors. Determines viable fundraising opportunities available to the Chapter. Coordinates MPIKC volunteers and schedules to maximize benefit. This position will create and manage one special event and one year long promotion.
  • Qualification: Creative, willing to devote time and energy into fundraising, detail-oriented
  • Time Commitment: 3 hours/month, attendance of MPI Events throughout the year
  • Training: VP Orientation, Quarterly calls with VP of Finance and Director of Strategic Alliance

SPECIAL EVENTS

Special Event Volunteer Leadership Position

  • Purpose:  To coordinate and direct special event programs for Chapter
  • Responsibilities and Duties: Coordinates special events for MPIKC Chapter. Follows the Program Setup Form and coordinates with facility, chapter administrator, securing sponsorships, venue selection and on-site logistics.
  • Qualification: Detail oriented, has time commitment of 4 hours per month for two months preceding event
  • Time Commitment:  4 hours/month, two months’ length of time per event
  • Training: Orientation with Director of Special Events, monthly calls with Director of Special Events
  • Reports To: Director of Special Events
  • Events:
    • Dine Around – September
    • Trivia Night- November

Awards and Auction Chair / Committee

  • Purpose:  Coordinates and Direct annual awards banquet
  • Responsibilities and Duties: Coordinates Awards Banquet for MPIKC Chapter. Follows the Program Setup Form and coordinates with facility, chapter administrator, securing sponsorships, venue selection and on-site logistics. Also targets donors to awards banquet silent auction component.
  • Qualification: Detail oriented, has time commitment, able to communicate clearly to auction donors
  • Time Commitment:  4 hours/month, six months’ length of time per event
  • Training: Orientation with Director of Special Events, monthly calls with Director of Special Events
  • Reports To: Director of Special Events

EDUCATION

CMP Study Group Volunteer Leadership Position

  • Purpose: Help members develop and achieve their CMP Goals
  • Responsibilities and Duties: Required CMP professional, and MPIKC Member. Enjoys helping others develop in the industry, by guiding them through the CIC and PCMA study materials as they prepare to take the CMP Exam. Questions and class structure has already been developed. Coordinates the comprehensive CMP Study Group program, establishing a schedule of study dates, times, location and instructors. Communicates activities to the Chapter and establishes Study Group participation fees
  • Qualification: CMP Certified, able to lead discussion
  • Time Commitment:  2 hours every other week for 4-month period
  • Training:  Orientation with VP of Education, resources available for study group materials
  • Reports To:  VP of Education

Monthly Program Volunteer Leadership Position

  • Purpose:  Develop and coordinate educational programs for Chapter
  • Responsibilities and Duties: Creates and coordinates monthly educational programs around an annual program theme.  Each monthly program has a designated lead person who is responsible for developing the program and coordinates all logistics with the host facility.
  • Qualification: Detail oriented, has time commitment of 4 hours per month for two months preceding event
  • Time Commitment:  4 hours/month, two months’ length of time per event
  • Training: Orientation with Director of Education, monthly calls with Director of Education
  • Reports To: Director of Education

Professional Education Conference (PEC) Lead / Volunteer Leadership Position

  • Purpose: Execute largest educational event for MPIKC
  • Responsibilities and Duties: Organizes MPIKC’s annual Professional Educational Conference by establishing educational objectives, selecting a creative program theme and design, and working with speakers to provide relevant content. Coordinates event logistics and budget, solicits sponsorships and exhibitors. Designs promotional and printed materials and post-event evaluations.
  • Qualification: Detail oriented, has time commitment of multiple hours a month for one year preceding event
  • Time Commitment: 1 – 2 hours a week in early stages and 2 – 4 hours per week in final planning stages, time commitment is from September/October to April 2018
  • Training: Orientation with VP/Director of Education, monthly calls with CP/Director of Education
  • Reports To:  VP of Education/ Director of Education

Community Service Liaison

  • Purpose:  Assists MPI in giving back to community
  • Responsibilities and Duties:  Encourages selected charity to come to one of the events and give 5 minute presentation, research and recommend charity donations to the board,  collects items at each event and dropping off at selected charity (or finding a member to have items dropped off),   Communicating with charity selected, writes at least one article a year for newsletter regarding donations collected  at education & special events and overview of charity selected, if unable to attend an event, coordinates another member (or Program Lead) to take any donations collected from
  • Qualification: Strong interest in seeing MPI give back to the community
  • Time Commitment: 1-3 hours per month
  • Training:  No training required, Orientation with VP of Education
  • Reports To: VP of Education

MEMBERSHIP

Membership Ambassador Volunteer Leadership Position

  • Purpose:  Inspires new and nonmembers to join MPIKC
  • Responsibilities and Duties:  An active MPIKC member that enjoys helping others develop in the industry, by educating them on the opportunities MPIKC must offer them including MPI scholarships, education programs, networking events, social functions, job connections, conventions, etc. Will attend events and will encourage new members) to attend events as well.
  • Qualification:  Outgoing, willing to attend as many events as possible
  • Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per month, attendance of MPIKC Events required
  • Training:  Director of Leadership/VP of Membership Orientation, monthly calls with Director of Leadership
  • Reports To:  Director of Leadership

Membership Retention Volunteer Leadership Position

  • Purpose:  Reminding current members to renew membership
  • Responsibilities and Duties: An active MPI Member that can call/email potential membership cancellations and due for renewals.
  • Qualification: Outgoing, able to commit time to email and call members (approximately 15-20/month)
  • Time Commitment: 30 minutes/month
  • Training: Director of Member Care/VP of Membership Orientation, monthly calls with Director of Member Care
  • Reports To:  Director of Member Care

Leadership Volunteer Leadership Position

  • Purpose:  Engage current members in Chapter
  • Responsibilities and Duties: Promotes volunteer opportunities within the Chapter. Maintains a master volunteer list and connects interested members with the appropriate committee. Coordinates volunteer recognition programs throughout the year.
  • Qualification:  Able to send emails to current members, communication skills
  • Time Commitment:  1-2 hours/month
  • Training: Director of Leadership/VP of Membership Orientation, monthly calls with Director of Leadership
  • Reports To: Director of Leadership

Student Membership Volunteer Leadership Position

  • Purpose:  Recruit and engage Student Members
  • Responsibilities and Duties: Develops and implements an incentive program to recruit new members. Arranges speaking opportunities at local college hospitality classes
  • Qualification: Outgoing, communication skills
  • Time Commitment: 4 hours/month
  • Training: Director of Member Care/VP of Membership Orientation, monthly calls with Director of Member Care
  • Reports To: Director of Member Care

Job Bank Volunteer Leadership Position

  • Purpose: Helps members seek fulfillment in job search
  • Responsibilities and Duties: Serves as an informal, confidential liaison for Chapter members seeking employment; and maintains a list of local job openings in the hospitality industry, as well as a list of possible internships to post on the Chapter website.
  • Qualification: Trustworthy, loyal, outgoing
  • Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/month
  • Training: VP of Membership Orientation, monthly calls with Director of Member Care
  • Reports To: VP of Membership/Director of Member Care

COMMUNICATIONS

Newsletter Volunteer Leadership Position

  • Purpose:  Sends vital communications within chapter
  • Responsibilities and Duties: Gathers articles, photographs, and other pertinent information to report news related to MPIKC and/or the hospitality industry. This publication is called the MPIKC Times and is distributed to members every other month.
  • Qualification: Comfortable with technology, strong marketing  and communication skills, creativity and vision, and ability to edit and revise content to market to the MPIKC audience,  knowledge of Mail Chimp or ability to learn and use the tool.
  • Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per month
  • Training:  Orientation with VP of Communication, monthly calls with VP of Communication
  • Reports To: VP of Communication

Website Volunteer Leadership Position

  • Purpose:  Communications important information through website
  • Responsibilities and Duties: Works with MPIKC’s board and committee chairs to keep the Chapter website current, focuses on driving traffic to the website, and looks for ways to improve website design and content.
  • Qualification: Comfortable with technology and the use of Word Press, strong marketing  and communication skills, creativity and vision, and ability to edit and revise content to market to the MPIKC audience.
  • Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per month
  • Training: Orientation with VP of Communication, monthly calls with VP of Communication
  • Reports To: VP of Communication

Social Media Volunteer Leadership Position

  • Purpose: Engage members and nonmembers in social media
  • Responsibilities and Duties: Creates and solicits content for Chapter’s LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts. Works with Chapter’s Vice President of Communication and the Chapter’s President to approve content.
  • Qualification: Understanding of social media
  • Time Commitment: 2-3 hours/month
  • Training: Orientation with VP of Communication, touch-base calls with VP of Communication
  • Reports To: VP of Communication

Quarterly Calendar Volunteer Leadership Position

  • Purpose:
  • Responsibilities and Duties:  Create and maintain quarterly communication to MPIKC Members outlining MPIKC programs and events and registration details through Mailchimp.
  • Qualification: Comfortable with technology, strong marketing  and communication skills, knowledge of Mail Chimp or ability to learn and use the tool.
